Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Major General(retd) Mahmud Ali Durrani was sacked tonight for having indicated days ago that Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone survived Pakistani terrorist arrested for the Mumbai terror attacks, may have been a Pakistani. He was sacked for telling the media that the Kasab might be a Pakistain without the permission of the Prime Minister. When asked the Prime Minister why did he sacked him his reply was” He never consulted us before he told the media regarding “. A brief statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House said Yousuf Raza Gilani had sacked Durrani “for his irresponsible behaviour not taking Prime Minister and other stakeholders into confidence and lack of coordination on matters of national security”. Some reports which came from the pakistain said that the removal is also approved by the President Asif Ali Zardari. The move came soon after Information Minister Sherry Rehman and Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq both told reporters that an investigation by Pakistani security agencies had confirmed that Iman was a Pakistani national. Rehman also said Pakistan’s investigation into the Mumbai attacks was continuing.
