2010 Games village near Yamuna

Over 1,100 flats for Commonwealth Games are getting ready for the construction work a village near the Yamuna for the year 2010. The court gave the permission for the construction on the conditions stating that if there is any negative impact on Enviornment it might get cancelled. ” We amply make it clear to the respondents (Government and others) that if they carry out any construction, they will be doing so at their own peril,” a Bench comprising Justice A.K.Sikri and Justice Rekha Sharma told. Court has directed some Enviornmentalists including scientist R.K.Pachauri tocarry out an assessment of the impact on environment due to the  Construction. The Village is situated in east of Delhi and the construction project is handled by EMAAR MGF and all Buildings will be ready by April 2010. Out of the total number of flats, two-thirds will be handed over to the government while the remaining will be owned by the company. The court’s direction came on a bunch of petitions filed by environmental activists, alleging the on-going construction on Yamuna river bed would disturb the ecological balance.
